Position description

The Financial Controller will lead the finance function for Slovenia, reporting to the General Manager Slovenia and working closely with the international group head office.

Initially, the role leads a team of 3 internal employees covering accounts payable and accounts receivable, and manages the relationship with an outsourced finance provider responsible for financial and management accounting, including tax compliance. 

The role offers the opportunity to shape the function, optimise the use of systems and streamline reporting and analysis, ensuring a business-focused approach to data that supports growth.

This role will be part of the senior management team and offers an opportunity to be a player in the commercial direction of the business and work closely with the leaders to craft the ongoing success of the business. 

Key Responsibilites

Monthly accounts:
  • Responsibility for all financial and management accounts, including budgets and forecasts.
Reporting:
  • Preparing and presenting key financial information to country and regional teams, including regional general management.
  • Acting as the key contact for the group central team regarding group reporting requirements.
Treasury, cost and cash management:
  • Managing treasury and banking facilities.
Budgeting and planning:
  • Managing the budgeting and 5-year planning processes.
Internal control environment:
  • Developing and maintaining an appropriate internal control environment.
  • Interfacing with group internal audit and risk functions and ensuring compliance with the group framework.
Statutory compliance:
  • Managing the external annual audit.
  • Ensuring compliance with Slovenian accounting standards (SRS), tax and corporate legislation, and alignment with group accounting policies (IFRS).
Pricing support:
  • Working with management to ensure all pricing elements are gathered in a timely and accurate way.
Systems (in conjunction with the IT function):
  • Optimising the use of IT finance systems.
Integration:
  • Leading the finance aspects of the integration of processes, reporting, systems, controls, to the international group standards.
People management:
  • Managing a team of 3+ direct reports.
  • Maintaining a positive, fun and friendly culture and ensuring all colleagues feel fully supported in their roles.

Required Competencies

Professional and technical:
  • Fully qualified accountant with significant post-qualification industry experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of Slovenian accounting standards (SRS), tax legislation and financial reporting; working knowledge of IFRS and group (consolidation) reporting.
  • Strong IT proficiency, advanced Excel, experience with financial systems and financial modelling.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Microsoft Dynamics / Navision or similar) and reporting / BI tools.
Commercial and analytical:
  • Commercially minded, able to focus on what is important to the business.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills – someone who loves data and what it can deliver.
  • Ability to challenge and question commercial assumptions in a positive and effective way.
  • Excellent attention to detail and compliance.
Leadership and communication:
  • Dedicated people leader, comfortable leading the team to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communicator who builds solid and trusting relationships quickly.
  • Credible and trustworthy advisor to the business and senior management.
  • Change management skills – ability to set up and improve processes during organisational development.

Candidate Profile

Education:
  • minimum level of education: VII, in economics, finance or a related field
  • professional accounting qualification are of advantage (e.g. ACCA, CIMA, CPA or Slovenian certified accountant – “preizkušeni računovodja”, SIR)
  • strong professional English
Work experience and desired knowledge:
  • Strong industry experience in finance; at least 7 years, of which at leats 3 years in a leading role.
  • Experience working in a subsidiary of an international group and with group reporting (monthly packs, forecasts, budgets) is a strong advantage.
  • Experience in service, retail, automotive or multi-location businesses is an advantage.

The role is based at the company’s head office in Maribor, working closely with the General Manager and leadership team.

The employment will be as a full-time job for an unlimited period, with a 6-months probation period.
